Day 11 - My Coffee Mornings

Some days after I drop off N at the kindy (kindergarten as referred here) I stop to sit and have a cup of coffee while browsing through the day's news paper. Or I take it to-go and sip it while walking home.

The cafe I go to, is this ancient looking coffee place with a grinding mini-factory right next to it so you can smell really strong coffee from quite a distance.

My favourite is a mochachino which, as they say, is a cappuccino with a teaspoon or more of chocolate!! Here in Windy Welly they serve it with marshmallows.

So there is no sugar in the coffee. You can choose to sprinkle cocoa powder or cinnamon on the top and 2 marshmallows on the side. I dunk the m'mallows into my coffee and that sweetens it gradually. So I drink coffee as coffee and then get my sugar hit at the end :)

Some times it's just coffee. At other times it is accompanied by a friand, a scone or a puff pastry snack. On this particular day it was a blueberry and coconut friand.

They do have a few Starbucks' which was and still is a personal favourite. But the locals prefer the millions of cafes in the city with locally ground and brewed coffee. And after tasting coffee there, I am a big fan too.

This is part of Day 11 of the Marathon Blogging December 2012.

  1. I'd anyday prefer a local brewery before Starbucks..:)

    1. I hadn't discovered the pleasures of real coffee till a short while ago. Now I know what Starbucks serves is not coffee, it's just an easily available replacement for coffee. It's like a fast food chain for coffee... I could go on :)

  2. I gave up coffee after the "addiction" I had succumbed to in the first org. Since then I often go out for breakfast and snack alone. Mostly one Friday of the month is the day when I take a book along and spend 2 hours in peace.

    1. I used to frequent Cafe Coffee Day a lot while working in Infy Bangalore. But once I quit working that reduced a lot. Now it's a when-I-feel-like thing here :) But yes it is a time I like, to sit and read the paper, enjoy the atmosphere, the aroma of coffee and people talking, me silent. Ah bliss!

  7. After many years of being an atypical Tamilian and not drinking coffee, in the last few years I have been getting addicted to my morning cup of "filter" coffee :)

Nice post Simran, and I liked the look of those friands too!

    1. Thanks Aparna!! I did not have either chai or coffee on a daily basis while growing up. Even now S and I don't have anything in the mornings when we get up. This is more of an indulgence :)

    1. Thanks!! :) I learnt this tip from a real estate lady while I was in the US. Turn on the oven for 10 minutes and then switch it off. Then put some coffee beans in it. The house smells all warm and welcoming. It apparently results in more sales too ;)

  9. Ha ha. At first, I thought 'friand' was a typo for 'friend'. As in, accompanied by a 'friend' :)
